GFE Management settings - Defining how your patients will be cleared

In this article, we will guide you through how to manage Good Faith Examinations (GFEs) in our EHR.

How to Set Up GFE Management settings

Step 1: Access GFE Management Settings
  1. Log in to your Admin EHR dashboard.
  2. In the upper right corner, click on Account Settings.
  3. Navigate to GFE Management.

Step 2: Choose your GFE settings

  • Do Not Route: If this option is selected, you must manually click Request GFE each time you want to initiate a GFE request (explained below).
  • Own Clearing Provider: With this option, all GFE requests will be automatically routed to your clearing provider as long as the patient is in status "To Clear". If you need an urgent GFE from Portrait's medical team, you have to manually request it by clicking on the “Urgent GFE” button that can be found on the top right corner of the patient profile.
  • Portrait Clearing Services: This setting routes all pending GFE requests to Portrait’s medical team automatically. You won’t need to manually click Request GFE, but you can still click it to upgrade the request to "Urgent GFE" for an additional fee.

If you chose "Do Not Route" or "Own Clearing Provider" and wish for Portrait's medical team you clear one of your patients, you can go to the patient profile on your provider dashboard and request it manually.

FAQs

Why Is My "Request GFE" Button Be Greyed Out?
If the standard Request GFE option is greyed out, and you only see the Urgent GFE option, it’s likely because your GFE settings are set to Own Clearing Provider. In this case, GFE requests are automatically routed to your clearing provider. However, you can still choose to request an Urgent GFE if needed.

How to Process a GFE as a Clearing Provider or Physician?
If you are the one clearing your own patients, follow the steps below to process a Good Faith Examination (GFE): How to Process a Good Faith Examination (GFE) as a Clearing Provider / Physician in the EHR.

Why Has My Patient Not Been Cleared Yet?
If you have selected Portrait Clearing Services for your GFE settings, please ensure that you have scheduled an appointment for the patient. The Portrait clearing team prioritizes GFE requests based on scheduled appointments, filtering by the Next Appointment date to ensure timely clearance so we recommend having the patient schedule an appointment, or you can schedule it yourself.

Why Is My Patient Showing as "To Live GFE"?

Certain states require that a live session with the physician or clearing provider is necessary for the Good Faith Examination (GFE) to be conducted. Patients are required to schedule this virtual live session with their physician through the EHR system.
